PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Great Outdoors Tours is a small business that organizes day-long, guided trips of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The company provides customers with a wide variety of hiking, biking, and paddling trips for all levels of experience. With a recent growth in business, Great Outdoors Tours has developed a database in Access 2013 to organize its records. The company would like your help in creating forms that highlight certain information.
GETTING STARTED
Download the following file from the SAM website:
SC_Access2013_C5_P1a_FirstLastName_1.accdb
Open the file you just downloaded and save it with the name:
SC_Access2013_C5_P1a_FirstLastName_2.accdb
Hint: If you do not see the .accdb file extension in the Save file dialog box, do not type it. Access will add the file extension for you automatically.
Open the _GradingInfoTable table and ensure that your first and last name is displayed as the first record in the table. If the table does not contain your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
PROJECT STEPS
Open the Reservations table in Design view. Use the Input Mask Wizard to create an input mask for the Phone field. Accept the default input mask for a Phone Number field. Store the data without the symbols in the mask. Save the change to the Reservations table.
With the Reservations table still open in Design view, add a new field named Waiver after the Deposit field. Use Attachment as the data type for the field. Save the change to the table and close it.
Open the Guides table and update the record for Ursula Grea-Mayers (who has a GuideID of UG01) as described below:
Using the input mask, enter 207-555-2833 in the phone number field.
Set the CPR Certified field to Yes.
Close the table.
Modify the Guide Data Entry Form to match Figure 1 by performing the following tasks:
Open the Guide Data Entry Form in Design view.
Open the field list for the form.
Add the PhoneNumber field to the form in the position shown in Figure 1.
Save and close the Guide Data Entry Form.
Select the States table and then create a new form in Design view. Update the form to match Figure 2 by performing the following tasks:
Add the State and StateName fields (from the States table) to the Detail section of the form, in the approximate location shown in Figure 2. If necessary, reposition the controls and their labels after adding them to the form.
Save the form with the name State Data Entry Form, but do not close the form.
Add a Title to the form. (Tip: The title of the form should be State Data Entry Form.)
Save and close the State Data Entry Form.
Open the Guides Master Form in Design view and ensure that the Use Control Wizards button is selected.
With the Guides Master Form still open in Design view, use the Subform/Subreport Wizard to add a subform with the following options:
Use the Trips table for the subform.
Select the TripID field, the TripName field, and the Type field from the Trips table to add to the subform.
Accept the default link (Show Trips for each record in Guides using GuideID) to link the main form to the subform.
Save the subform as Trips subform (which is the default name).
If necessary, reposition the subform to match the approximate location shown in Figures 3a and 3b.
Save and close the form.
Open the State-Trip Master Form in Design view and modify it to match Figures 4a and 4b by resizing the width of the subform as shown in Figures 4a and 4b. (Tip: The right edge of the subform is at the 5.5” ruler mark.) Save, but do not close, the form.
With the State-Trip Master Form still open in Design view, modify the form title to match Figures 4a and 4b by performing the following tasks:
Change the font color of the title to Red (2nd column, 7th row in the Standard Colors Palette).
Change the font size of the title text to 20 pts.
Apply the Raised special effect to the title.
Save and close the form.
Open the Reservations Financial Form in Design view and modify the form by performing the following tasks:
Delete the GroupSize control and the accompanying label.
Change the label for the Address control to Street.
Save and close the form.
Open the Reservations Contact Form in Design view and modify the form to match Figure 5 by performing the following tasks:
Select the ContactFirst, ContactLast, Phone, TripDate, GroupSize, and WaiverReceived controls and labels simultaneously.
Adjust the spacing of these fields to have equal vertical spacing.
Save, but do not close, the form.
With the Reservations Contact Form still open in Design view, change the Tab Order so that users tab to the TripID field immediately after the
ReservationID field. (Hint: Move the TripID field upward in the tab order.) Save and close the form.
Open the Basic Trip Form in Design view and change the background color of the form to Light Gray 2 (1st column, 3rd row in the Standard Colors Palette). Save the form, but do not close it.
With the Basic Trip Form still open in Design view, modify the form to match Figure 6 by performing the following tasks:
Select the TripName label, TripName control, the Maximum Group Size label and the GroupSize control simultaneously. Align the controls to the Top.
Select the TripName control, StartLocation control, State control, and Distance control simultaneously. Do not select any labels and make sure the GroupSize control is not selected. Align the controls to the Left.
Save, but do not close the form.
With the Basic Trip Form still open in in Design view add a Title to the form. (Tip: The title of the form should be Basic Trip Form.) Save, but do not close the form.
With the Basic Trip Form still open in Design view, change the Tab Stop property to No for the Distance field. Save and close the form.
Modify the Trip Data Entry Form to match Figure 7 by performing the following tasks:
Open the Trip Data Entry Form in Design view.
Move the TripName control and label to the position shown in Figure 7.
Select the GuideID, Type, Level, and Season labels simultaneously.
Adjust the size of the labels to fit the widest label as shown in Figure 7.
Save and close the form.
Save and close any open database objects. Compact and repair your database, then exit Access. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
