use the following files KATL_spring.txt KBNA_spring.txt KJAN_spring.txt KORD_spring.txt These are daily high and low temperature data files with daily peak wind gusts for

four US cities (KATL – Atlanta GA, KBNA – Nashville TN, KJAN – Jackson MS, KORD – Chicago IL). The first column of each file is the date (YYYYMMDD), the second is high temperature, third is low temperature, and fourth is daily peak wind gust. Use these files

to answer the questions below.
a) Determine how many days in each site had a daily high temperature that did not exceed freezing. Discuss the results based on the locations of the cities.
b) Formulate a five number summary and boxplot for KBNA high and low

temperature and peak wind gust. Discuss the results.
c) Plot histograms of high and low temperature and peak wind gust for KJAN. Formulate the four moment statistics for each column and discuss the results in the context of the histograms you plotted.
d) Which of these sites’ low temperature data is likely least correlated with the others? Provide the correlation for low temperatures between all possible pairs of sites to see if this is true. Briefly discuss the results.
e) using KORD as a baseline, determine:
i) The probability of a daily high temperature below freezing
ii) The probability of a daily low temperature above freezing
iii) The probability of a daily high temperature above 35°F with a peak wind gust above 10 mph.
iv) The probability of a daily high temperature above 45°F given a peak wind gust over 5 mph.
f) Fit the KBNA peak wind gust data to an appropriate distribution (based on its histogram). Using this fit, determine:
i) The probability of a peak wind gust less than 5 mph
ii) The probability of a peak wind gust greater than 10 mph
iii) The probability of a peak wind gust between 5 and 10 mph What do these sum to?
